Ride News:

Last weekend, five riders fronted for the inaugural running of the BPB (Brighton – Peachester – Brighton): AnneL, DaveB, MarkR, NickB, PatL. The BOM forecast of 80% chance of 20-50 mm rain was just good enough for the optimists. I mean what are the chances that you could possibly get rain going across Mt Mee? As it turned out there was some dampness, but no actual inundation or the deluge that Brisbane experienced.

A happy Audax rider.

Why is she so happy? She is happy because she is on her favorite riding surface:

(It always pays to carefully read the fine print in the ride description.) And if you look closely, there is a shadow.

Great ride support from RO Peter Jenkins and Ann. And wouldn’t you know, Lindsay & Connie Green were on hand running one of the controls. It really was an abridged April Animation. PatL being revived by Connie in the Caboolture Hilton:
Lindsay: “These are ideal dust-free riding conditions”.

The week previous saw nine riders signing up for the MPM1 (Middle Park Medley): DavidB, GeorgeR, MarkR, PhilipR (100k); ChrisE, ChrisR (200k); BrianH, EmeryB (400k); ChristianW (600k). For the 2nd week running there was someone new doing their first Audax ride. Welcome Christian! I only hope we get as many riders doing their 2nd Audax ride. The peloton leaving Middle Park:
True to form the MPM1 was hot & muggy. Camel Backs were popular. This was the view coming into Peak Crossing:
PeakCrossingThanks to RO ChrisR for continuing this great series.

Newsletter News:

Remember that all previous newsletters are stored on the Audax Queensland website here. This is also the repository of Ride Reports. I have just added a page of “Big Rides” which has links to either 1000k rides that have been held in Queensland; or the Ride Reports from Queenslanders on 1000k+ rides. The header of the website is now randomly one of 25 images, so changes whenever the page is reloaded.

Other News:

  • A reminder that if you plan on doing a Year Round Randonneur in 2016, you have 2 weekends left in November to get the challenge underway. Look at the Audax website calendar, pick a ride, make sure your membership is up to date and enter a ride. If there are no rides in your area on the day you have available then choose a permanent (here). Ride it like a Randonneur and do your best time, or ride it like a cylcotourist and enjoy the scenery the ride organiser has placed you in.
  • People may not be aware of the smartphone friendly Audax Calendar. It can be put on your phone like an app… If you open this link on a phone: tap on the ‘send to’ icon then tap on ‘add to home screen’.
  • A PhD student is seeking Ultra Runners and Cyclists to participate in a study investigating how exercise and diet impact biological ageing. More info here. If you would like to participate (and have a chance to win one of five $25 itune gift cards), please click on the following link:
