Newsletter: 24th January, 2017

The first 200k ride for almost a month, there was a large turnout for this year’s Bedrock.

Ride News:

Bedrock – 60, 100, 150 & 200k – (14/1/17)

It was great to see Andrew Bragg walking about at the start. A relatively large turnout: Justin Bennett, David Booth, Narelle D’Arcy, Sue Dingas, Raoul Dover, Kim Grylls, Roger Hawley, Brian Hornby, Peter Jenkins, Craig King, John McMullan, Phil Millham, Greg Mulder, Kym Raffelt, Peter Reade, Anthony Richardson, Mark Riley, Peter Watson.

The MetEye forecast of 34oC max sadly underestimated the day’s temperature. I had the pleasure of riding behind a certain A. Richardson in full vomit mode. Subway in, subway out. A situation that improved remarkably after the aircon of the Dayboro Hotel. Not everyone finished given the conditions, but all had a quality challenge. Special kudos to John McMullan for writing it down, see the ride report below.

Colt 45 – 45k (BD) – (15/1/17)

In a now expected FNQ turnout, sixty-three riders got down & dirty with RO Wil Bird in a Dirt Brevet: Scott Alford, Sue-Ellen Beaven, Chrissy Boll, Jodi Brown, Danielle Buchanan, Stuart Carr, Kim Christie, Heather Cochrane, Kachena Cullen, Shane D’Alcorn, Kelly D’Andrea, Kathryn Deed, Mike Dolby, Kay Eccleshare, Mary-Anne Elkington, Kellie Eustace, Jana Fogarty, Renay Gardoll, Derek Garner, Laura Garner, Deb Gillespie, Malcolm Gillespie, Robert Goodwill, Damien Gosley, Alex Hall, Lesa Hansen, Gwen Hobbs-Williams, Jane Hutchinson, Geoffrey Jenkin, Kathy Jenkin, Chris Keir, Russell Keir, Deena Keith, Mark Kerswell, Nola Kerswell, Kathy Kilpatrick, Steve Kilpatrick, Mark Knowles, Tony Martin, Matthew Mitchell, Grant Moulang, Gary Perkins, Glynis Perkins, Sandy Perkins, Warren Pike, Ron Radlof, Dietmar Reimann, Mark Richards, Gayle Ritchi, Julie Scharf, Dallas Seedsman, Margi Shearer, Jessica Sia, Rachel Skill, Gayle Sticher, Lloyd Stonadge, Lauren Thambyrajah, Libby Thomas, Morgan Thomas, Kim Weston, Laura Whenmouth, Rachael White, Tara White, Emma Winterflood.
Rather than me making something up, Gayle Stitcher has written another great ride report.

Late News

Inter-Colonial Championships

It’s never too late to submit a ride report. This one is from The Queensland Figaro, Sept 12th, 1885.
1895championshipssource here

The Inter-Colonial was the equivalent of the National Championships (before there was a Nation), and was held at the Toowong Sportsground (now Oakman Park). There is nothing quite as exciting or as dangerous as a pennyfarthing race.

Online Permanent Registration Trial

Audax Australia is trialing an online registration system for permanents. It uses the online payment system we have been using for calendar rides but also provides electronic processing of brevets. Queensland has been doing limited trials and the system is now being expanded into other regions in a restricted manner to iron out any bugs before it is released Australia wide.

The rider has to get agreement from the Ride Organiser when they want to ride a permanent then they register online using the portal. When a rider completes the registration they are emailed a PDF copy of the brevet that can be printed and used for the ride. On completion, scan or photograph the completed brevet and upload using the link provided in the registration email. You will be emailed a brevet number when processed by the Ride Organiser and Regional Brevet Secretary. Stickers will be sent periodically to affix to your brevet.

Queensland Permanents.

Registration Portal

To help track your registrations there has been some functionality added to the Audax Members Portal. Once you have logged in, the status of your permanent registrations is listed for rides that haven’t been finalised (see below). You can also use the links for downloading Brevet Cards and upload images of completed rides.
