Audax is a sport that challenges us. I for one have challenged myself to ride longer but in recent times have struggled a bit mainly from lack of riding. What better way to challenge and nurse myself back to my better form than taking on the role of Newsletter Editor. Whilst many would think this particular edition is my handywork it is actually Keith’s final newsletter assembly as he gave me the run down on the process in a practical way – I merely penned the introduction . Thank you Keith for your dedication and by providing us with our newsletter in the recent past.
Keith’s first newsletter showed a bike with training wheels which reflected his view at the time. I think my view is like a set of well crafted assembly instructions, not so much like a popular flat pack furniture brand, but more like the modern day interlocking brick or metallic bolt together toys that I spend time assembling with my Grandson.
I look forward to the challenge, will put my particular feel to the newsletter and do ask that you continue to send ride reports and items of interest to AudaxQLD@gmail.com so I can include them.
We have a few upcoming important events such as the National and Queensland AGMs plus preparations for this year’s Oppy so please read on.
Annual General Meetings
The National AGM will be held via teleconference. The Brisbane location is the Banyo Library, St Vincents Road Banyo, Thursday, 7 Feb 2019 at 7:00 pm AEST.
The Queensland AGM will be held at the Nundah Criterium Track 09-Feb-2019, preceded by a gentle 50km ride. The ride departs 7:00 am and the meeting will commence 10 am. Catering was sensational last year, just saying.
If you wish to contribute in 2019, please let a committee member know and they can explain whats involved.
Queensland Flèche Opperman All Day Trial
The Fleche Opperman All Day Trial (or “The Oppy”) is a 24-hour team time trial held annually by Audax Australia. The Oppy is an event for teams of three to five bicycles. Each team must ride at least 360 km (you design your own route) in 24 hours. If you’re not up for 24 hours of riding, try the Petit Oppy (180 km in 14 hours). More details / rules here. If you want to ride, but don’t have a team, we will do the match-making. Contact any of the ROs below or: AudaxQLD@gmail.com
In 2019 in SEQ the Oppy will start at 8:00 am Saturday 23rd March; and finish 24 hrs later. In FNQ the Oppy will start on a different date: 8:00am 18th May. Is next year the year to get two Oppy Medallions? The three Oppy regional organisers and the finishing locations are:
|SEQ||Mark Riley||St Lucia||St Lucys for breakfast|
|FNQ||Gayle Sticher||Port Douglas|
Ahhhh, the wonderful Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland. Beautiful one day, cyclonic the next. Possibly…. or maybe….. or should we just wait and see.
A few days before the weekend, only 30 brave souls had registered for the Colt 45. The rest were no doubt recalling previous soakings and watching the forecast.
John McMullan takes on a 200km Brevet. He writes: “4am start at Woody Point made a huge difference but the headwind northbound was a pain.”
As threatened, I’ve documented my ongoing adventures with drivetrain lubrication. Have I uncovered the holy grail of chain lubes??
